In the eastern part of India like West Bengal & Odisha, people celebrate Deepavali in the name of RAMAR PATTABISHEKAM commemorating Lord Rama's return to his kingdom of Ayodhya after a 14-year Vanvas (exile) after defeating the demonic King Ravana. Deepavali celebrations in the Northern parts last 4-5 days on a grand scale namely Dhanteras, Bhadi Deepavali, Choti Deepavali, Govardhan puja and Bhai dooj. In Southern parts like Tamil Nadu & Andhra Pradesh, people traditionally celebrate Deepavali in the name of Naraka-Chaturdasi commemorating the day Lord Vishnu defeated the demon king Narakasura.
