One of the two important epics in Hinduism, the Ramayana is a whole tribute to Lord Rama that not only depicts his life story but showers great knowledge and life lessons. This epic is famous among devotees of Lord Rama and we might have seen elders or our own grandparents do a Ramayan paath. It is considered a way of praising the Lord and honoring him. There are many special occasions when devotees across the world host various celebrations in the honor of Lord Rama. One such occasion is the day of his birth - SHRI RAM NAVAMI.
Lord Rama was born in AYODHYA, a small town in the state of Uttar Pradesh. People of Ayodhya celebrate this festival in grandeur by hosting poojas, organize 9-day long trade fairs and conduct various special events. As a religious ritual, people also observe fasting on this day. Almost every home will carry beautiful decorations along with diyas lit up everywhere. People dress up kids as Lord Rama and Goddess Sita and perform plays like Ramleela.
While Ram Navami is all about celebrations, a lot of preps go in beforehand. If you are a beginner and look forward to ideas on how to celebrate this festival, here you go!
First, it is the pooja set up. People place an idol of Lord Rama, most popularly the Ram Darbar. Then they adorn the idols with flower garlands and offer Annaprasadam. Secondly, people perform a devotional pooja worshiping the lord and finally exchange gifts with their near and dear ones. Also, those who host events at home or temples will give away return gifts to all the guests and devotees.
